White Noise Can Benefit A Child

You may have seen the use of the English term white noise and wondered what it is all about. White noise translates into white noise , and this refers to artificial sound, which is a combination of all the frequencies of sound that a person can perceive.

Today we talk about the health effects of white noise on children and adults.

What is white noise?

Noise can mean many things; it may be a disorder, distortion, or unclear sensation in the auditory organs. The English word noise is derived from the Latin word  nausea,  which refers to an uncomfortable feeling or irritation.

White noise is a signal that does not have a specific pattern. It is created by combining different frequencies. White noise is determined by the fact that these frequencies have the same oscillation range at the same time.

Where white light encompasses all wavelengths of light, white noise includes all frequencies of sound.

Impact of white noise on health

Several studies have been conducted on the health effects of white noise, but to date they have not provided reliable information on the effect of white noise on the human body.

White noise is said to benefit people by facilitating concentration and meditation. In addition, its relaxing effect helps to fall asleep.

Animal studies have found that animals exposed to other sounds remembered less things than animals exposed to white noise.

Relationship between different noise types

White noise includes all frequencies of sound detected by the human ear. Our brains are unable to differentiate between these frequencies.

White noise can be used to exclude unpleasant noises – such as street noise – which makes it easier to work, study or rest, for example. Noise disappears into the background and drowns out external sounds.

Tinnitus  is a hum or ringing in the ear or a hum for which there is no organic cause. Chronic numbness in particular can cause sleep disturbances, depression and stress. With white noise, this condition can be significantly alleviated.

White noise and babies

White noise is said to also improve the well-being of babies. According to some experts, it has the ability to relax a child.

The white noise overwhelms the sounds that may be disturbing the child, and after a few minutes the baby begins to relax and calm down. Thanks to its relaxing effect, white noise helps the child sleep longer.

Exhaustion caused by daily activity or excessive stimulation can stress the baby, and the positive factors of white noise reduce this stress. White noise also soothes the baby’s crying, which helps reduce the child’s stress.

One hypothesis suggests that white noise is very similar to the sound environment to which a baby became accustomed while in the womb. Because of this, the noise creates pleasure, a sense of security and calm in the baby.

According to experts,  it is important that the child is not accustomed to sleeping through white noise. The sound can be used as an aid from time to time, but not every night.

White noise and adults

In adults, white noise stimulates the brain during REM sleep. It helps us to achieve a relaxed state and thus good conditions for sleep.

There are many devices that produce white noise today.  In addition, applications can be downloaded to phones and other mobile devices where the user can choose what type of white noise they want to listen to. Currently, all the innovations that produce white noise mainly offer solutions for faster sleep.

Experts recommend that you do not listen to white noise at high volume repeatedly.  In children, the noise level should not exceed 50 decibels.
